For years I had physical symptoms. Lots of anxiety problems, depression. Once we decided to exit, my symptoms started to subside. Not totally gone (as I still have family in) but 80% better

On your way "out" of the WT, did you experience physical syptoms?

all of the sudden she wants to spend all this time with me.
of course, lots of what she was telling me about the "bible", didn't make sense.

Say you're young, strong, single, have a job and want to have a place of your own
by dgp insay you're a young witness woman, in your twenties, single and you finished the studies your family would let you take, and you have a job.
would it be possible or common for you to face your parents and say "hey, i'm going to live on my own" (supposing you have the money, of course)?.
thanks.. .

I love your stories Tim.
dgp - Go out and live. It's what young adulthood is supposed to be about. It is a right of passage. Live well below your income and don't accumulate unnecessary debt.

I have to remember some of the dumb plates I've seen and post 'em.
This one young cool brother in our congregation had plates on a chevy that read "GotPaid" One meeting he was illegally parked and my husband said "we have a vehicle blocking the fire lane, so gotpaid, you got to move" everybody was cracking up.
I've seen the dumbest plates on the least expensive cars, like a saturn that read "nonote".......really?

How Can Jehovah's Witnesses Take Themselves So Seriously?
by minimus in.
i don't get it.. they're wrong about almost everything they say.
they flip-flop on dates, chronology, prophecy, bible understandings.........

If a person is allowed to choose their beliefs, the beliefs become a part of who they are. Not who they are. Just like a piece of clothing they can choose to change it if they will. The attachment is minimal.
When the faith is handed down the family line it is very difficult to separate it from who you are. "I was born a Catholic, I will die a Catholic"
When you are born in and your family is generations deep in the religion, you take yourself seriously because your identity is at stake. To allow yourself to question and challenge your religion is to challenge everyone and everything you have ever known. Including great-great grandfather and grandmother. To be one of Jehovah's Witnesses means more than just being a part of the religion. The family says "We are Jehovah's Witnesses", and you say "I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses"
It is so wrong.

How did 1975 effect your family? here's mine...
by Aussie Oz ini just spent a few days with my dad.
i asked a few questions about the time when mum became a witness which i know is still, 38 years later, a painful thing for him to talk about.
in the course of it, he also learned some stuff that he did not know about the pressures of the times.. as i expected, mum and dad have different versions of this time, and it is pretty hard to find the real truth in it and in some ways it does not matter anymore.. mums version: she first was contacted in echuca late 1960s and dad put a stop to it.

My 3rd gen witness parents were married in '69 and I started grade school in Sept. of '75. My preschool years were filled with the sense of urgency and doom and gloom of '75. Our family studies and conversations were rehearsals of what to do if we were separated from our parents. As scarredforlife mentioned we too suffered from constant anxiety, depression and fear of the great tribulation and armaggedon. I had nightmares about buildings falling on me and being all alone during the GT.............. Fast forward to the 80s. My parents are insisting that we make the truth our own because Jehovah isn't going to let this system go on much longer and we can't ride on their coattails forever..................whatever .
For most of the world 1975 is just a year in the past.

Watchtower Signage
by jgnat ini've complained before about the stuffy signage in assembly halls.
with the help of modern technology, i've managed to capture some original images.. .
"please ensure door is tightly closed at all times" - note use of passive voice, and excessive verbiage.

With the signs, the message is order, control, conformity.
You're absolutely right jgnat. This is really obvious at the assemblies and conventions. When the dubs walk near those Please keep moving/be quiet signs they instantly stiffen and quiet down like robots. At one of the assembly halls here they actually have an engraved sign in the bathroom about not painting your fingernails.
